‘Night’ after Corot’s ‘Four Times of Day‘, 2014
Ink on cartridge paper,
9 x 18 cm

This is one of four drawings based on Corot’s ‘Four Times of Day’ (1858) which are exhibited in one room in the National Gallery, London.  The paintings were made for Corot’s friend, Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps whose studio was in Fontainebleau Forest near Paris.  Corot painted them from memory.  I have assumed that they are of views within the forest. The four panels were eventually bought by Frederic Lord Leighton of Stretton.  I have transferred my ink drawings onto small canvases so that they can be seen linearly.
